The Sydney Woodcarving Group is an association of men and women in and around Sydney, Australia, who pursue woodcarving as an interest. We meet together regularly in a spirit of friendship and are willing and eager to share our knowledge, techniques and skills with others. Our members are mostly amateurs although some manage to sell an occasional creation or find the time to teach skills professionally either privately or in a local technical evening college.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in woodcarving no matter what your experience, skill and ability. We welcome people with physical disability.

We currently meet at four locations — Oyster Bay (in Sutherland Shire), Epping (on the northern rail line), Shellharbour (at Albion Park Rail - south of Wollongong) and Chester Hill (in Bankstown Municipality).

Meeting times range from all-day Saturdays to weekday evenings, allowing some choice for members. Each group owns or has access to useful heavy and expensive equipment which home-carvers might find bulky or expensive (e.g band-saws) for use in homes. Newcomers are always welcome!!

The group exhibits regularly at local shows or open-days, the most significant event of the year being the “Sydney Timber & Working With Wood Show” held every June.

The Group is administered by a Committee elected at the Annual meeting held in August each year. The Committee meets bi-monthly.

Membership costs $40 per year and a per-meeting charge of $5 is levied which is used to meet the expenses of the group, including rental charges at our meeting locations.

Much of the activity at club meetings relates to sharing and giving mutual assistance but from time to time we invite guests, who may or may not be group members, to speak on and demonstrate subjects of general interest.
